What is Brand Crafting?

Brand Crafting is the skill of extracting the essence of an organization or a person and sharing it with the world in a way that is memorable, believable, and scalable. Brand Crafting is mastery in these six areas:

Messaging & language

The words you use to talk about your business can’t sound like marketing. People hate being marketed to. That’s why I create brand poetry for my clients: the right words to use in every situation.

Differentiation & positioning

Differentiation happens at the DNA level. Positioning makes sure your audience doesn’t have to figure out what makes you different on their own. That’s why I build from what’s true for both.

Category ownership

Great brands don’t try to own a market segment. They codify and own a philosophy that becomes a standard. That’s why I build your brand on what you believe, not your business model.

Audience archetypes

Your audience wants to be seen and understood, not manipulated. That’s why we work together to do the hard but necessary work of crafting a brand they see themselves in.

Amplification engine

Marketing isn’t a department you staff. It’s the right specialists, assembled for what your brand needs. That’s why I built a studio model that amplifies your brand around your strategy and budget.

Systemic word-of-mouth

Word-of-mouth is usually treated like serendipity. But it should be a system, and your primary source of new business. That’s why I bring systems thinking to activating and nurturing your community.

Who I serve

My clients are founders, CEOs, and solo professionals across every sector and industry. They share a few traits, especially these: moral clarity, the courage to be different, and the patience to trust the crafting process.

My clients see their businesses as an expression of their values. They share a purpose: to use their businesses to make the world better. They reject apathy and exploitation, and they refuse to trade their silence for acceptance.

If any of this sounds like you, let’s talk.

03

What I offer

My clients want to craft one of three kinds of brands: for their company, for themselves as thought-leaders, or for themselves as solo professionals. I provide the expertise and structure for all three.

Branding for founder-led companies

Brand Activation

Brand Activation is based on a heretical idea: telling the truth. It takes the truth of your values, your culture, and how your customers feel about you, and crafts it into a brand that is memorable, believable, and scalable.

Aging Excellence

The company is still damn good at what it does. The problem is that the brand looks and sounds dated, which smells a lot like irrelevance to the next generation of customers and employees.

Fail point
Spending a pile of money on a new logo and calling it a rebrand.

Ready to Grow

Through grit and grinding, the company is profitable. The problem is that grit and grind doesn’t scale a brand. You have the budget to spend on marketing, but no senior marketing leader and limited marketing infrastructure.

Fail point
Outsourcing all of this to an agency and overpaying for it.

Pre-Revenue Startup

Your brand is part of your IP. You need to codify the fundamental elements of your brand now, before revenue. Marketing can be “good enough,” but not your brand.

Fail point
Letting the market decide your brand for you. This creates a perpetual identity crisis and leaves you forever chasing trends.

Personal branding for founders & CEOs

Becoming an Oracle Brand

If you are the founder or CEO, you are the face of the corporate brand to the marketplace, and the Chief Spiritual Officer for the vision, values, and mission of the organization. When you craft your personal brand as a unique entity, you become an Oracle.

Face of the Brand

You are your company’s most valuable brand asset. When you treat it as a distinct brand instead of a company line item, it becomes a force multiplier.

Free Agency

You are a hired CEO, not the founder. When you build a personal brand that ports with you, your reputation stops being a byproduct of the company and becomes an asset you own.

Legacy Work

You are not an active founder or CEO, but you are also not retired. Your wisdom is in your head, trapped in Moleskines, or left as tribal knowledge within the organizations you have led.

I’m Justin Foster

I am an entrepreneur, brand strategist, and writer who helps conscious founders, solo professionals, and creatives turn their calling and craft into unforgettable brands. I am the creator of F the Formula™, a branding philosophy and framework that rejects manipulation and builds brands with moral clarity, poetic language, and lasting impact.

My journey began on a cattle ranch in eastern Oregon, which greatly influenced my no-bullshit approach to leadership and business. Now based in Mexico City, I have spent over two decades delivering heretical brand coaching to leaders across all industries and sectors, applying my gift for distilling complex ideas into potent messaging and crafting ethical, high-impact brand strategies. My love for language extends to writing essays, poems, and songs.

My core belief is that no one’s mission is to keep things the same. As such, I am a fierce advocate for social justice, with an unwavering commitment to challenging entrenched power, and a vocal supporter of neurodiversity, conscious masculinity, and mental health.

My latest keynote

Blame it on Bernays

Most people have never heard of Edward Bernays, but his influence on our daily lives is huge. Bernays was Freud’s nephew. He took his uncle’s research and taught the world to sell by exploiting fear, uncertainty, and desire.

This keynote is for the leader who feels the conflict between a rising consciousness and a marketing playbook built on manipulation.
